As the Company’s motto says - “An amateur company with professional standards”, our aim has been to continue performing in professional theatres and to keep the standard of production as high as possible.
We have performed a wide variety of shows over the years. From our first production of ‘Maid of the Mountains’, performances have included: ‘The Merry Widow’, ‘Hello Dolly’, ‘My Fair Lady’, ‘Oliver!’ and ‘West Side Story’. In recent years we have strived to keep abreast of current trends, which is reflected our productions of : ‘Evita’, ‘Jesus Christ Superstar’, ‘Summer Holiday’, ‘Witches of Eastwick’ and then more recently our resounding artistic and financial successes of ‘Full Monty’ and ‘La Cage Aux Folles’.
Following the recruitment of children for our production of “Oliver!”in 1987, WBOS Youth Section was formed. Our extremely talented Youtheatre perform annually at the Garrick Theatre, Lichfield and will be staging “Les Miserables - School Edition” later this year. This wonderful venture has resulted in countless youngsters going on to play leading roles in WBOS main productions. It has also produced a number of actors that now perform in the West End. 2008 marked the company’s 70th Anniversary and they were extremely proud to present the wonderful, rarely performed, classic musical – ‘Show Boat’. A cast of over 60 adults took this much-loved musical to the Grand Theatre for yet another success.
2010 and the future looks as exciting as ever, after raising the bar with the stupendous 2009 success of "La Cage Aux Folles" in April, and “RENT” in September, we will be venturing forth once more into yet another attempt to "raise that bar", as we continue from strength to strength... Our residence at the Grand Theatre, Wolverhampton continues in the April of 2010 when we will be staging the enticing and highly acclaimed Disney musical “Beauty and the Beast”.
If that isn't enough to convince you, WBOS are very proud to have been invited to perform the Andrew Lloyd Webber hit - Jesus Christ Superstar in October at the Grand Theatre. WAIT!....There's more!... The JC run will continue with a second week of the performance, when we take to the road and perform at the Alexandra Theatre, Birmingham in November. What a year 2010 is looking to be. Visit our future productions page or the box office page for more information.
